My 2010 Prediction for Music
The Aughts were a tough time for the music industry. The Internet came in and stole their lunch and music execs found themselves in a war to preserve their mansions, sports cars and mistresses’ way of life.
Music lovers didn’t particularly give a fuck, because all we wanted was access, for free or for cheap. iTunes brought us the cheap and Johnny 8-ball off my secretary’s ass still clawed at the floors, kicking and screaming into the present rather than show the flexibility and ingenuity that defined this new medium.
So here we are, whether anyone likes it or not, in the digital age of music, with more space in our homes for shit we don’t need and I’d like to theorize on what 2010 will bring:
Your iTunes collection in the cloud.
You bought it and now thanks to Apple buying Lala, you will be able to listen to your music everywhere. Streaming and with lovely adverts related to your tastes abound on said website.
No more transferring files or ripping iPods.
Enjoy the next decade.
