It is fantastic that we live among a generation of post-MLK voters that have grown up with desegregation as such a norm that voting Barack Obama for president doesn’t seem as much of a good idea as not voting for Al Sharpton for president. I mean, we still have that ass-growth from The Hills wanting to adopt Africans and name them “Dunk,” but we’re making progess.
The racial undertones from the Democratic Primary will soon overtake the campaign for President of the United States and someone will soon be calling foul. The sad part is that it will be either party.
It is truly sad that the Democrats and Barack Obama have to face accusations of him being a Muslim. When you read, see or hear people say that they are uncomfortable with Obama being president because he is Muslim, or a “closet Muslim.” Even if those were his beliefs where does it say a Muslim can’t be president? A Catholic was president and a pretty good on I’ve heard.
No, Muslim is the new word for “Black,” that sadly a number of Silent and some Boom Generation, Caucasians use to make their mild ignorance sound more politically correct.
I am personally uncomfortable with him touting his Christian beliefs, but at least I am willing to put that in writing. Fewer people wants to appear racist anymore because the US no longer tolerates it, but it is perfectly fine to be secular, dogmatic, etc, and use that to mask xenophobia.
Despite how Republicans will spin accusations of racism thrown their way, it is not defensible and we need to be open to discussing it. In large part because despite earlier statements in this post, there are more than enough people who are genuinely unaware of their mild racism and would benefit from it being discussed.
Either way the topic needs to be addressed openly and publicly whether there is a positive resolution or not. The era of Martin Luther King and Malcom X was one where all Americans openly challenged and discussed these issues, which lead to change and an undeniably better America.
Let’s call a spade a spade (Oof! Was that heavy-handed enough?).
